Uncovering of relics of St. Matrona

On March 8, 1998 on the Week of the Triumph of Orthodoxy occurred the invention of the holy relics of the Blessed Matrona at Danilovskiy Cemetery with the blessing of Patriarch Alexei II.

On March 8, 1998 on the Week of the Triumph of Orthodoxy occurred the invention of the holy relics of the Blessed Matrona at Danilovskiy Cemetery with the blessing of Patriarch Alexei II.

The commission for autopsy was headed by the Archbishop of Istra Arseny. The governor of the Novospassky Monastery, Bishop Alexy of Orekhovo-Zuevo, the vicar of the St. Daniel monastery, Archimandrite Alexis with the brother, the rector of the church in the name of Martin the Confessor in Moscow, priest Alexander Abramov participated in transferring of the remains of the elderess Matrona. In the temple of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, at the Danilov cemetery, the vicar of the St. Daniel monastery, Archimandrite Alexis, performed the funerary lithium. The coffin with the holy remains of Matrona was taken to the Danilov Monastery and placed in the gatehouse in the name of the Monk Simeon.

Everyone who was present at the moment had a solemn and joyful feeling.

In addition to representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, the commission included an expert on forensic science, anthropologist, doctor of medical sciences, professor Zvyagin Viktor Nikolaevich and an archeologist, doctor of historical sciences, Tanyukovich Andrei Kirillovich.

On March 13, the Commission completed its work. It was noted that during the examining of the remains of the old Matrona, a bulge in the form of a cross on her chest was found, this fact was mentioned in her biography.

In the Intercession Church of the St. Daniel Monastery, a particle of the grave of the blessed Matrona was placed on the analoy. In the days of Lent there were requiems for the repose of the servant of God Matrona.
